CoreAVI Unveils Its Complete Safety Critical Graphics and Compute Platform Built Around the AMD Embedded Radeon™ E9171 GPU at Embedded World

Embedded World, 2019, Nuremberg, Germany, February 26, 2019: Core Avionics & Industrial Inc. (“CoreAVI”) announced today that it will be demonstrating a complete AMD Embedded Radeon™ E9171-based safety certifiable solution in AMD’s Booth 360 in Hall 1 at Embedded World. This safety critical solution showcases VkCore™ SC, the industry’s first safety critical Vulkan®-based graphics and compute driver, running VkCoreGL™ SC 1.0.1 OpenGL® SC-based libraries, as well as CoreAVI’s DO-254 hardware IP containing the AMD Embedded Radeon E9171 GPU.  Designed from the ground up for safety and efficiency, CoreAVI’s VkCore SC driver is certifiable to RTCA DO-178C/EUROCAE ED-12C up to Design Assurance Level (DAL) A, eliminates the need for separate compute and graphics APIs, enables heightened performance, flexibility, and direct access to the GPU and reduces CPU overhead.  VkCoreGL SC 1.0.1 libraries allow legacy OpenGL applications to take advantage of the advanced capabilities of Vulkan while transitioning from OpenGL to Vulkan.  A first in the mil/aero industry, VkCore SC running on the AMD Radeon Embedded E9171 GPU-based compact module provides integrators with the low powered, high performance GPU their modern graphics applications demand and allows their systems to harness both graphics and compute capabilities simultaneously.

CoreAVI’s E9171 GPU-based DO-254 safety certifiable 3U VPX graphics module will also be showcased in the AMD booth.  As part of CoreAVI’s E9171 GPU-based safety critical platform solution portfolio, CoreAVI offers COTS-D DO-254 hardware design IP that enables rapid time to deployment, reduced risk, and safety certification of CoreAVI-powered avionics systems using the AMD Radeon Embedded E9171 GPU.

CoreAVI offers an extended temperature-screened version of the AMD Radeon Embedded E9171 GPU-based module to support the needs of safety critical avionics and other high reliability system manufacturers.  The Radeon E9171 provides higher performance compared to the predecessor AMD Radeon™ E8860, with H.265 video encode/decode capabilities[i] and 4 GB integrated memory (double that of the AMD Radeon E8860) all in a lower power footprint, making it ideal for embedded applications.

“CoreAVI enjoys long history of providing deployable, safety certifiable solutions for avionics systems based on AMD Embedded Radeon GPU technology. We are committed to providing an end-to-end safety certifiable platform solution with the AMD E9171, while continuing to enable the market with this much needed technology,” said Damian Fozard, CEO at CoreAVI. “Combining the flexibility of VkCore SC with AMD’s high performance Radeon E9171 and our GPM0001 DO-254 graphics processing module IP allows the next generation of applications to experience state-of-the-art graphics and compute capabilities like never before.”

“AMD is pleased to showcase CoreAVI’s VkCore SC, the industry’s first safety certifiable Vulkan driver, on the AMD Embedded Radeon E9171 GPU-based module at this year’s Embedded World,” said Amey Deosthali, senior product manager, Embedded Solutions Business, AMD. “Our valuable partnership with CoreAVI helps ensure the AMD Embedded Radeon E9171 GPU-based module is not only temperature-screened and fully deployable with software and certification support to all avionics applications, but also available to customers in the low risk form of safety certifiable COTS-D hardware IP.”
